“Create a Buzz” is a brand new competition helping your band or group to create a new learner ensemble. Warwick Music Group (WMG), in partnership with Brass Bands England (BBE), are offering 10 bands the chance to each win a set of 20 of the fabulously fun pBuzz learner instruments. All you have to do to qualify is make sure your group have a great leader and a good plan.
WMG, BBE’s new strategic partner for Youth Development, aim to enable brass bands to kick-start their beginner band programmes and create the next generation of players. Brass bands, schools, and other voluntary organisations are invited to apply for the use of a set of 20 pBuzz instruments to give children aged between 5-11 the chance to learn, play and perform. Each of the “Create a Buzz” groups then has the opportunity to grow followers far and wide. They are asked to create a short video* featuring their young pBuzz players which will be shared by BBE and WMG on social media channels, on the web, and with local and national TV and radio. BBE have also commissioned outstanding composer Jonathan Bates to create a piece especially for Create a Buzz, where the learners will be able to play together with their main band.
Resources to support band leaders in providing a fun and valuable educational experience are available here on the pBuzz website.
In a further exciting development:
For part two of our competition, all bands awarded a set of pBuzz instruments will be invited to compete for a further prize of 10 pBone and 10 pCornet instruments, which will be awarded to the group with the most entertaining and informative video performance of our specially commissioned music.
Awards will be made in March 2018 and the winning pBuzz band will be invited to perform the Jonathan Bates piece in front of a capacity audience at the BBE National Youth Brass Band Contest at Warwick Arts Centre. Applications will be judged on plans for creativity, fun, and likelihood of the young people to continue playing. The more creative and far-reaching the better. This initiative can be used to feed existing youth band activity or as a catalyst for new youth bands.
Applications are now being accepted until Sunday 31st December 2017.
Those approved will be awarded pBuzz sets by the end of January 2018.
The newly-commissioned pBuzz music composed by Jonathan Bates will be provided free of charge as part of the award.
In return for your set of pBuzz instruments, our only requirement is that you submit to us a maximum 5-minute video showing your group’s pBuzz journey and your set piece performance.
Entries Part Two:
As you are one of our lucky winners, the video of your pBuzz journey and set piece performance will be forwarded for judging by our expert panel. This gives you the chance to win a set of 10 each pBone and pCornet instruments for your beginner band. The closing date for submission of the video is Friday 2nd March 2018 for all pBuzz bands. The winning band will be notified by Friday 9th March 2018.
